Competing Press Releases

I thought it'd be interesting to compare Diana Irey's statement on Zarqawi's death with John Murtha's.

Here's Diana's statement:
"The forces of freedom have struck a great blow in Iraq: Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, the man who personally beheaded Americans, and then broadcast those images on the Internet as a means to terrify innocents and recruit militant Islamists; the man who rose to lead al Qaeda in Iraq, and was considered by U.S. security officials to be just as dangerous as Osama bin Laden, is dead.
"I congratulate the armed forces of the United States and of the new democracy in Iraq, who worked together to eliminate this brutal terrorist leader. We should all take a moment today to say a silent prayer for the brave men and women of our armed forces, to honor them and ask for God’s protection over them."
Here's Murtha's:
"My compliments to General Casey and the troops involved in eliminating Al-Zarqawi. This obviously will have a significant impact in reducing the amount of violence in Iraq.
"The significance of this event is also in bringing in Iraqi intelligence to coordinate the effort with U.S. forces.
"With the appointment of Defense and Interior Ministers, we should be able to substantially reduce our presence in Iraq and redeploy our military outside of Iraq."
Murtha's statement starts out positive, then immediately returns to pushing his agenda of getting out of Iraq ASAP. Had we followed his advice last November, we wouldn't have killed Zarqawi because we wouldn't have been in Iraq now. Now he wants us to leave just when we're rolling up the network that Zarqawi put together that's responsible for the sectarian violence. NO THANKS JACK!!!

By comparison, Diana Irey's statement is uplifting, almost to the point of being rejoiceful on the accomplishment. Then she asks that we pray for our soldiers' protection.

That sounds like a Reagan Republican to me.
